“Ik Ardas Bhaat Keerat Ki Guru Ramdas Rakho Sarnaee”, is the most regularly sung hymn at every Gurbani Keertan recital across the globe. It’s often sung as a prelude by Gurbani singers due to its words. It’s a humble prayer describing the condition of a seeker and then his yearning for grace.
This shabad is sung traditionally in the ragas but Daler Mehndi puts Bhaat Keerat’s words honoring and praising the fourth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Ramdas ji to contemporary western, energetic rhythm and music. It is a prayer which every devotee or seeker can relate to where one is pleading for abode at the Guru’s feet. The words are authored by ‘Keerat’ a devout Sikh from the Bhaat clan and are inscribed in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the eternal Guru of the Sikhs.
