Daler Mehndi’s third super hit album consecutively in the third year of his being in the Industry gave him the title of the ‘Mesiah of Masti’, ‘Maverick Mehndi’ & ‘Superlative’.
Such was the paraphernalia of the album that any International act that came to India to perform, be it any genre of music – was forced to say aloud Balle Balle – so as to connect with the Indian audience. The album got him the Channel V’s Best Male Singer Award 1998, Best Album, Song of the year. He was nominated in all the other categories and the Screen Videocon Award for best Male Pop Singer.
In 1997 after the release of ‘Ho Jayegi Balle Balle’ he created a ‘Hatrick of Superhits’ and was christened ‘Dollar Mehndi’ by the media. This album got him Channel V Awards in 6 different categories. His music label declared him ‘Superlative’.
Ho Jayegi Balle Balle stayed at the Channel V’s no. 1 slot for continuous 38 weeks.
“It was a difficult year. I had lost my mother. She was the one with whom I shared my dreams and she was gone. I was to shoot my video a week after her demise and was in no condition to do so. But the shoot was planned and pre production was through. It became a rage instantly and won many awards. “Balle Balle” was then used by many foreign artists as their communication with Indian Audiences. It felt good. Radios play these songs especially “JALWA” to the hilt. It feels good.” –Daler Mehndi
